Pune is still cheaper than Banglore, but public transport is pathetic. You're however in control if you have your own 2 wheeler or 4 wheeler.

A decent 1 BHK flat should be around 4.5k to 6k per month and you'll have to pay refundable deposit which is usually 10 times the rent (50k to 60k). Paying guest accomodation also is available -- but a better option for a single person is to stay with 2-3 friends and sharing the rent which comes to around 2k to 3k. However, it is pretty difficult to find a rental house to you'll have to go for an agent/broker and here they charge around 2 month's rent as brokerage.

It seems the cheapest is Delhi, here you can find 1BHK for about 2 to 4 k and generally 1-2 months advance/security.

Yes.I too heard Delhi is cheaper but its not safe to live in Delhi.Hyderabad might be chaeper and safe possibly.Pune was one time favorite but interms of cleanliness and traffic rules its worse than Bangalore.
I used to pay mere Rs 3100/month for 1 BHK in Pune(in Khadki)with Rs 24000 deposit in 2003.
In next few months I am also looking to relocate to Pune.

I lived in Pune for 4 years and the cost of living is not that high. You must have a two wheeler or a car to commute because the local transportation service is not that good as the ones in Southern India.

A 1BHK flat can cost you anywhere from 2K to 5K depending upon the locality and/or if the flat is furnished.

Traffic situation is a total chaos and you are definitely better off with a Two wheeler in Pune than a car.

One thing for sure, you would love the weather, the culture and the city life.
