How can I tell the forum to stop displaying "pretty" code? In very long posts (with lots of code), firefox always pops an error about non-responsive scripts. Is there a preference I can set to disable this, and just show code in a TEXTAREA?

You could disable JavaScript altogether; or install the NoScript extension and block the specific script that's causing you problems.
