looking for web based global meeting tool

I wish that me and my 30 friends all over the world had a place where we could say "I am typically awake in my time zone from time A to time B ... and on Monday from time C to time D I'm busy ..." Then when I look at my calendar, I can see what I'm doing. And then I can look at a web page of my 30 friends and see who is available today for ... stuff.

Anybody know of such a thing?

we're a community of software professionals (and students). Shouldn't be too hard for some of us to create something like that

I believe Outlook has something like that in the form of a team scheduler. It could be available through Outlook web access, not sure what serverside functionality you will need for it, probably Exchange server.

Jeroen ... I sent you e-mail - did you get it?

Ah yes - create something like that ---- it does sound cool. Of course, there are lots of fun projects ... But I just can't help thinking that this one might have already been done!

Peter,

Can I pick 30 friends and look at their availability for a given day? Kinda the way outlook does it?

Got it, first email from here in over a year that got through.

There are several "social networks" run by the likes of Google, but those are likely overkill and are also ventures I distrust massively.
They seem too much like efforts by unscrupulous marketing departments to build up massive databases of email addresses and personal profiles on people for marketing purposes.
And it works too, people get tricked into signing up and then empty their entire address books into the database to send "invitations", which has gotten me onto several rather nasty spamlists over the years.

You could of course check sourceforge, but you're more likely to find something done in php there than Java.

You can view each others calendars, and setup XML / iCAL links. I've not used outlook, so don't know how it works - but I guess it has similar online functionality.

- Me too, but then they [who?] already know this about you anyway! Did some work a while back: I2 - phones call records, credit cards transactions, bank accounts, tax payments, internet accounts, emails, medical records (etc)

Some interesting stuff there ... but no ... nothing quite like what I'm looking for.
