Hello All ,

This is my first and foremost post to this SCBCD forum.

I am done through SCWCD.

Now i need guidance to start preparing for SCBCD .

I am new to EJB 3.0 (last year , I had gone through HF EJB 2.0 so have some memories )

I went through "Hall Of Fame" link for guidance too , but still confused . From their (different exam clearer' s ) experience , I short-list below book names :

1) O'Reilly EJB 3.0 Book
2) EJB in action .
3) Mastering EJB 3.0 (4th Ed.),
4) Mikalai Zaikin's SCBCD 5.0 Guide from this site
5) Many recommend to go through specs as a MUST
and
in the end , Enthuware's EJBPlus V5 for SCBCD 5.0.

For sure I will go through MZ notes after doing some book ,

Which book to buy first to begin out of 1 , 2 , 3 options ?

Please guide me.

(In my personal choice , I feeling like reading specs first )

Thank you,
Vishal Chugh

Hi Vishal,

Book 3 is available free here :- http://www.theserverside.com/tt/books/wiley/masteringEJB3/index.tss
I'm on chapter 15. Seems pretty good. Not bad for free!

On the recommendation of many of the people here, I bought book 2. I can't tell you much about it as it's still unopened at home whilst I finish Book 3.

Hope that helps,

MG

Since you are beginner, go with 2). I personally have read it. It is good for the newbies. About 1) I have heard that there is lots of extra stuff in it. I have read some part of it before I read 2), but felt lost! After one reads 2) one can go for 4) and/or 5) and then go for the mocks.

When you are reading 2), be sure that you try some code provided in the book. The book comes with three source codes- one for jboss, on for glassfish and one for the oracle application servers.

Also, since you would be excited to write some code this link will be of help!

Niranjan , I have come across more posts where top scorers just read book : EJB in action --> Javabeat/Enthumock ---> 92%/98% , so I think I am okay with EJB in action book . Thank you...

Thanks

I think they must be referring to the "EJB 3 in Action" book as its published by Manning. Find it here.

Hi Vishal,

Thanks a lot for those kind words! I am happy that I motivated you to reach the goal!

As you said AJB3.0 In Action -> javabeat/enthuware is your preparation starategy. I think you should stuff in MZs notes, specs in between. These are indespensible. Also, some of the exam passers have read chapters 4,5,6,7 and 8 from the pro EJB3 JPA book. So you may browse it to gain more depth.

Yes, the forum is lively and exciting with so many people out there to help you out!

Keep posting..

Heylo,

Thank you Niranjan for guidiance.....

I have started with EJB in action book and finished with chapter 1 . Do we have any notes from this book? As to read second time , many things seemed to be skipped . I am also preparing my notes too of relevant lines.

It was bit heavy stuff .

Hi Vishal,

There are no notes on this book You need to read -

Chapters 1-11 (skip the irrelevant part cautiously)
Chaper 14 - ejb2.x and ejb3.0 interoperability section 14.1
chapetr 15 - just the @WebService and @WebMethod parameter part - sections 15.1,15.2 (for information) and 15.3.1 and 15.3.3 for the exam objectives.

Note that this is my interpretation. The mroe you read the more better!

Vishal,

I recommend you read the pro EJB3.0 book chapters 2-8 . It's a good read for the JPA part!

Yes,

I have purchased the Java Beat questions for 614INR , and happy that they have chapter wise mocks
