How to handle extremely boring co-worker? Problem is, we have to share same public transport on way to office. And then he starts with his usual being.

Try become more bore than your co-worker. And after some days he will change himself or he will ask the same question here on JR.

I tried it but now surrendered for what appears to be his inexhaustible capacity to bore his peers. He hails from remote maharastrian village and can not talk anything pther than profession. Even there, I bet, most generous assessment can term him mediocre.
Well, if you have great employer, kind boss, understanding wife and healthy kid, someone should neutralise that happiness.

A failed set of strategies to tackle this menace.
1) Yawn / Read while he talks.
2) Look out of the window while replying true for every statement made and every question posed (Even to questions like how was weekend)
3) Suddenly change the topic from design patterns to probability of finding life on Mars.

Every time he outshined just by dragging me into discussion of how his is the worst documented project in entire software industry and how his Predecessor were inferior in implementing design patterns.

I seek genuine and pragmatic advice. Arjun, I will try a different variant of your advice tomorrow.

My Take ->
You were dragged into the discussion because you were forced to listen to it. So a very effective solution is to use an Mp3 Player, or iPod (As suggested by Chetan), in your way to offc.

You are bored by yourself, not by your co-worker.

You are under no etiquette or moral obligation to engage in conversation anyone you don't wish to. The next time this person starts a "conversation" simply state that you would rather pass the time in silence or what have you. You are also under no obligation to provide any further explanation. You don't have to come up with some excuse ("I need time to collect my thoughts before work.") nor explain that you just plain don't want to talk to him. If he persists, you can just repeat the same thing, perhaps with different words.

Him: Can you believe what passes for "documentation" on the XYZ project?
You: If you don't mind, I'd rather read this book.
Him: What... you don't care how the project goes?
You: I'd really rather not discuss that with you.
Him: Why, are you getting a better raise for each bug we find?
You: If it's all the same to you, I'd like to get back to my book.
Him: Is that book any good?
You: Really, is there anything I can help you with?
Him: What... you're too good to talk to me.
You: If there's nothing else, I'll be getting back to my book now.

Completely ignoring him or responding with the exact same response (even when the response makes no sense) may not be the best approach. The best thing is to make your intentions completely clear without being rude about it.

This matter is bigger reflection on him than on you. There is no real reason for you be upset. It is a waste of energy to get mad at the sky when it rains or at the crickets when they chirp -- just put an umbrella and ear plugs on your shopping list.

Is it necessary to go in the same bus as him? You can change your timings, may be go little late or early.

Or simply say that you will not talk technical stuffoutside office, if you need to talk you would charge him some amount and so on, but say it with a laugh. Or ask him for a drink or a snack everyday when going back.
