Aside from the above posted solution, does anyone know exactly WHEN are they planning to move to 6? i mean its already moving fast towards being like the 5 round of updates to 6 right ? or prolly more ... i dont understand what are os x people waiting for?
They upgraded to 6 a long time ago. Looking on my Leopard machine I see:
It is worth noting that the "1.6.0" has nothing to do with the bug fixes - the 1.6 equates to Sun's 1.6, but the .0 is Apple's internal numbering - I would guess that it indicates changes in functionality as far as Apple are concerned. But I do see regular updates to my Java version through the automatic updates. If I run the "java -version" command I get:
Anyway, 1.6 was available for registered developers (free registration) for Tiger, but I believe they pulled that shortly before Leopard was released - I cant confirm that it is unavailable as I don't have access to Tiger anymore. Since Leopard has been out since June 2007 that would mean that 1.6 has been available for OS/X for around 2 years now.
