For those who don't follow Doonesbury, the characters in the comic strip age in real time. The daughter of the main character is going to college in the fall. She grew up as a hacker and so the author wanted to send her to an engineering school. The strip did an electronic poll between MIT, Cornell, and RPI to determine where she should go. The results are rather amusing. :-)
I've lived close to all three institutions, and am all too familiar with their locations, so I have to say MIT is the obvious choice. But let's not forget that Kim blew off her Comp Sci PhD at MIT because it was totally too easy: [ June 08, 2006: Message edited by: Ulf Dittmer ]

To each his own. I went to grad school at Cornell in the 80's. Now, I live 500 km north in Ottawa and I drive down to Ithaca twice a year just to hang out. I really like the vibe of the town. I have no desire to go to Boston/Cambridge. Too big.
This is just my view of the schools' locations. If I had to choose an undergrad engineering program, it would be MIT's. Fighting Beavers!
I studied in TU Vienna (Worlds 32th UNI in technology) But as Far as I study in two different country (Iran, Austria) I think MIT is something like Heaven for engineers.
