revision CX-310-081 and 083 - any major changes?

hey,

i loved the SCJP book by bert bates and kathy sierra so i want to buy this one for the SCWCD

it covers the 081 exam but the latest one on the sun site is the 083 ... are there any major changes or am i fine using this book to study ?

But, I think you are wrong choosing that book, because neither kathy or bert, wrote that book,

Instead, the book that they wrote was, HFSJ second edition.

HFSJ Second Edition is listed at the SCWCD Links.

Go for the HFSJ 2nd Edition book.. its worth to have.. I am also preparing for SCWCD and I have same book.

Looks like HJSJ is the best option and the one that most of the people reads. Actually, I do have the first edition and it's really great. I'm a great fan of HF series and K&B books.

But i'm also curious about the book Sebastian has mentioned. Did anyone used only this book and had success on the test? Does it covers all the topics of the test 083? If there is anyone who read the book, please post your comments.

Be careful. The HF S&J book is FULL of errors. Look at the errata for it on Oreilly.com. Questions cover information not in the book, numerous solutions are wrong, etc. It reads like a rough draft that wasn't ready to print, but was rushed through to meet a deadline.

I don't think K&B actually wrote any of this book. I'm pretty sure Bryan Basham wrote it and got K&B to sign onto it. It is not nearly as good as HF Java, HF OOA&D or HF Design Patterns.

You can also read the reviews on Amazon. Unfortunately, there aren't any other real options for SCWCD, but just don't expect a book nearly as good as the SCJP book which I loved.

I'm not a book basher, but this one needs help.

There are other options if you don't happen to like HFSJ! That's why you were provided with the SCWCD Links reference. Why would you say there are no other "real" options?

You're right. I bought the HF book based on my earlier good experiences with the brand and without doing due diligence looking into the quality.

There are other options, I just did not search them out. Silly me.
