Hi, everyone, Im a CS Freshman and taking java this semester. I have strong foundation on VC- used to be a vc/c++ programmer. I am planning on self study SCJA this summer and try to take the test. So im wondering is this test hard? when usually does everyone take this test- at what year, sophomore, junior, senior, or after graduation? thanks

Hi,

Is the test really hard is a difficult question to answer. Hard is a relative term But in that context it sholdn't be harder than SCJP. SCJA covers a wider range of topics rather than going deep into one topic. So to pass SCJA you need to have a grasp of the fundamentals of Java, server technology, client technology, UML, OO concepts, Algorithms, Integration technologies etc. You can get more details from the sun site for SCJA. But again all you need to know is the fundamentals in these areas and you aren't expected to be an expert. So in that way the test isn't that hard.

About if you can take the test now, I will say sure go ahead. The earlier you take it, better the foundation you have. It will motivate you to explore java further. Of course again it depends on if you have the time and can spare the effort.

Good luck!
