<sql: in JSTL ?

I'm curious as to how many programmers are using sql JSTL tags in their production JSP pages?
It would seem, given the heavy influence given the MVC pattern with J2EE development, that it was a bad decision to add this to the spec in the first place.
Just by the very nature of the functionality provided through this library simply breaks the Model/View paradigm. A tutorial I'm going through now says it should be used
for prototyping purposes only... in my experience to many "prototypes" make it into production applications. Hey, if it works, ship it!

Shame on any who are!

Even the Spec says this!

All too true! I never assume that I can cut corners with "prototype code". It always seems to have a way of finagling its way into production.

That's one advantage of having just HTML prototypes. Nobody can think they are production ready!

Exactly... so why in the heck was it decided to add this to the standard JSTL? I think maybe a goof? (not really looking for an answer, there ARE worse things out there).

I think that it was a bit of a mis-step.

(not really looking for an answer, there ARE worse things out there).

Yeah, there are.
