There was so much buzz about Google's Android platform in 2007 (with the Android challenge)... Hasn't become what we all thought it would be but let's see how it goes from here.
There are just so many competing platforms: Java ME, Symbian, Brew, Windows CE, (what does apple use? ) that are doing so well.
....Hey Android! we're hoping the best for you. (At least you are the platform between Java ME and Java SE that smart phones are screaming for.. Ah!)
I always wanted a separate forum for Android here on JavaRanch; a petition was filed with Ranch Office on 14th January, 09; but the possibility for android forum looked bleak, then. It took about 46 days to clear the bill! ["petition" sounds nice, doesnt it?!! ]
Anyways, It is a great gift for my 150th post!
I am glad that a forum has been created; looking forward to it in earnest
Thank you!

Great timing for me. I just started exploring Android about 3 weeks back.

Funny you should suggest to google Android if you haven't heard of it. The results might be a bit biased.

Carriers have been slow to adopt Android so far but things should pick up later this year and next. In a few years Android phones are expected to outnumber iPhones simply because of all the different manufacturers and price points, see http://networks.silicon.com/mobile/0,39024665,39403696,00.htm .
