Cold Servlets

I am having a hard time warming up to Servlets-2. I got so far as to get the first web page to run, but figuring out how to get the data sent to the servlet is eluding me. I can't find any meaningful information on servlets in any of my books, and the java tutorial doesn't look like much fun. Anybody have any cool spots for servlet examples, or should I just do the sun tutorial?

hi carol,
i got started on servlets by looking at the examples included with the orion server. i looked at the source code and just figured it out.
look at the signature for doGet( PrintWriter out , CastMap params ), what do you think the "params" are for...
i did buy a book eventually, but it deals mainly with jsp (professional jsp from wrox). i haven't gotten too far with it yet, but i like the book.

Thanks for responding so quickly Greg! I figured it has something to do with param, but I'm not not getting a clear picture in my head as to how to connect one with the other. I'll have another look at the examples that came with the orion server. Maybe another cup of coffee will help too!

You can never go wrong with another cup of coffee!
I've been considering getting a book for the hopefully not too far in the future servlet assignments. There's a bunch on the Bunkhouse page on J2EE.
I'm kinda tempted by one on the Java Miscellaneous page called Java Cookbook. Cindy Glass gave it a positive review, and said it had a good overview of servlets and jsp. Plus it looks like it has lots of other practical stuff, too.
Of course, any excuse will do for me when it comes to either good coffee or good books.
