I read that Android uses SQLite as its default embedded database.
Does Android allow using other similar small memory footprint databases?


SCJP 5.0, SCWCD 1.4, SCBCD 5.0, SCDJWS 1.4 & 5.0, SCSNI, ICSD for XML, SCEA 5 , ACE: Flex 3.0 and Air, ACE : Flex 4.0

Yes, there is a project going on which provides db4o for Android. db4o is an Open object database. You can look at an example here.

Sure looks good, as far as interest in the developer community for Android is concerned.
