IM buddies
Good news: I can chat with one IM to all my friends irrespective of whether he/she user MSN or Yahoo
Bad news: Have to be doubly cautious of 2 sets of viruses targeting my system

I wonder what the slashdot kiddos will come up with to say it's Microsoft trying to take over the world.

They've screamed for years to complain about the fact that it was impossible for different messengers to talk together after all

Or you could use one of the many multi-protocal IM solutions available...

Meebo
Trillian
Miranda
GAIM

...just to name a few, and not worry about who is competing or joining with who. Just chat.

1.Type the IP adress instead of URL.But this technique won't work if your ISP software uses reverse DNS look up.Convert hostname to IP adress from here

2.Use a URL redirection service like tinyurl.com or snipurl.com. These domain forward services sometimes work as the address in the the url box remain the redirect url and do not change to the banned site.

3.Surf the internet via a proxy server.(I think this is the good method)

These sites help you to send instant messages.

Do your jobs mean so little to you that you go to such lengths to flout the rules regarding internet use.
If IM applications and IP Proxies are banned, do you think that might be because your company does not want to use them? Do you not think that if you are caught using them that you might be risking your jobs?
I really don't understand this mentality.

Well said Angela,

But I want to remind the other things also that we use to do so many jobs during our office hours. All of them are not paybale and offered by company but we still do, just beacause of some need. Asking these proxy sites I doesn't meant that I will use it to chat only. I can do some more work may be I am in search of those sites which offer some study material, which are now banned by the organizations. May be I can study for MBA on some sites, which are not offered by company, but still I am doing it...

SO there are so many perspectives of single view. That's only your view that we are flouting the rules regarding internet use. But my view is that after doing some thing productive I may give some more output to my organization.

I hope, I am not so harsh.

I just presented my views.

In which case your company probably doesn't want you using their bandwidth for personal use. I could be wrong and I don't pretend to know how companies work in countries outside of my own, but I personally do my studying and research that is not endorsed by my company at home. Realizing not everyone has an internet connection at home this would be a problem. None-the-less, your company is blocking access. I'd respect there wish that you don't hack through it.

In fact, I'd suggest that there are no more suggestions to members who are trying to bypass their companies security measures and policies. To me it's the same as telling someone where they can download illegal software or download illegal copies of books. JavaRanch doesn't condone such acts.

Thanks.

Personally, and this is just me.

If a company goes out of their way to ban all of that, respect their wishes and find a better company to work for. There are too many great companies out there that are desperate to find good people, that you shouldn't have to work for one dictatorship company.
