The cube is never shown, all of its faces, to the camera so we don't know that it actually happened.

So it could have been staged.

Yes, and my fastest was under 50 seconds, in actualy competition. I first solved in in January 1980, 1 hour before the super bowl. I also think i was one of the first to solve it, since it wasn't till almost a year later that you started to hear reports of someone solving it, and about 2 years till those books started to come out.

I wasn't too impressed. The pattern at the start was very similar to when you twist both sides in opposite directions to each face repeatedly.

In other words, I'm saying he didn't "solve" it. It was choreographed.

Oh, and I have finished a cube multiple times using the layer method (the way of the cheat manual that comes with them). I think my fastest time was around 33 seconds but that was simply because most of it simply fell into place on its own.

It was great for meeting girls as a teenager. Most girls were convinced they could screw it up bad enough that I couldn't figure it out. The Rubik's I could solve - it was everything else I couldn't figure out.
