I just saw this myself; quite a shock. Then again, not much of a shock at all. Quoth Steve: "If something ever happens to me, people are gonna be like 'we knew a croc would get him!'" Stingrays don't have quite the rep of crocs (or lions, tigers, bears, etc) but apparently they're not to be underestimated. Looking at this another way, if you make a career out of dealing with dangerous animals, eventually something will get you. Too bad. He was an amazing personality, great fun to watch, and great at raising awareness of the animal kingdom. My heart goes out to his wife and kids.

Rally sad to hear this ...
Helping hands are much better than the praying lips
I really like the shows he did on telly, and his child-like enthusiasm - I was hoping to visit Australia someday and as well! At least he died doing what he liked the most!!
Huh I just read this bad news and felt shock & very sad...... his documentary shows are amazing, My 3 yr old like him very much. He had lots of energy & passion in his profession. May god rest his soul in peace.

Its ironical that big crocs cudnt get him but a small stingray did - Just proves the uncertainity of life.
My wife called me during the day and wanted me to break the news to my 3 year old. (He thinks Steve is part of the Wiggles, as we have Wiggly Safari)
I saw him being interviewed once and he was just so keen, 100% Steve. I still can't believe the guy was mortal, but look at what it took to slow him down.
