i'm looking to build application that does scanning. I'd like it to recognize whether or not it is logged in. just looking for ideas how best to do this. I'm open to all ideas / algoithms to use.i'm thinking a regex match on page difference when logged in vs not.. But there is not much literature on this what you all think?
I think you left out too many details. What does "scanning" mean - scanning what? Also, logged into what? Logged in how? What do regexps have to do with it, and what does "page difference" mean in this context?

Sorry about that. I would be testing security stuff. So the application would need to know if it is logged into a given application. So, lets say for example it was scanning this site . If i was able to get to "My Profile" and not logged in it would know there was a security issue. It needs to recognized if it is authenticated or non authenticated.

Wouldn't the application know if it did log in to some web site? It would have had to supply a password; it it didn't then it's not logged in. I think I'm missing something...
