I am contemplating opportunities outside India besides US/Canada & UK. What opportunities are available in this situation I have 9+ years solid Java/J2EE development experience now and really looking for a chance to work abroad for a year or two. Are there any good opportunities in Singapore, Malaysia, Germany etc? I had an offer to work in SA, but declined it as I got negative feedback about working there.

My partner is a surgeon with Indian PG degree (MS & DNB), so we would prefer that she should be able work there as well with her Indian medical qualifications. AFAIK, US and UK do not allow doctors to practice there without giving exams there - so that option is out. What other opportunities can I try now? Any reliable consultants that can be considered?

Any pointers will be highly appreciated.

Best option would be to look for countries that have Englich as their official language. First of all to practice as a surgeon in a foreign country where the officially spoken language is English is itself a difficult task and when you look for countries like Germany, or as a matter of fact any european countries which has its own official language is not advisable.

In for example Germany the IDE's are even in the local language. I've worked for a software tool vendor company and it's quite funny and confusing. Literally saving something to the hard disk, is 'nail it to the fixed plate'.

I do not understand what do you really mean here. This guy wants to know the options in countries like Germany, Malaysia and Singapore for his partner who is a surgeon!

I think Marcel is concurring with your post that it would be difficult to work in Germany, where the official language is not English and relating a humorous anecdote about his own experience with German language idioms.

Well, your post is already answered. It simply won't work for countries whose official language is other than english!

Yes, sorry to be a bit off topic. But especially in European countries in which they speak a language which is relatively 'main', like French, German and Spanish speaking countries, most common people won't speak very good English. It's is a little bit better in the The Netherlands, Vlaanderen and the Scandinavian countries, most people will know basic level English. But still not enough to be practical in a job, like doctor or nurse, in which you have much verbal contact. Also in languages like German, for computer words and also for medical words, they will use a local of their own. In German, save something to the hard disk is, if I recall correctly 'speicheren', while in Dutch you can more often just hear the english 'lended' word 'save' used.
