I am trying to do following.

(3) Start Up Tomcat

(3.1) Tomcat can be started by executing the following commands:

$CATALINA_HOME\bin\startup.bat (Windows)

When I run above command on cmd prompt , I get message path can not be found. How to find path for $CATALINA_HOME from cmd prompt ?

IS running this command on cmd prompt or starting tomcat service from "services" is same or different ?

Well, if you have not set your environment variable CATALINA_HOME, and then type the below, Windows does not know what path to replace CATALINA_HOME by.

CATALINA_HOME needs to be the top level installation directory for Tomcat. For example, if you installed Tomcat at C:\jakarta-tomcat, then set this value to CATALINA_HOME
