Honda Civic colours

I am planning to go in for a Honda Civic and cant seem to decide between the "Night Hawk Black" and the "Galaxy Gray". What do you guys vote for?

Also guys, any opinions on the Civic Automatic. Anybody experienced on the paddle shift mechanism?

what's so special about Bombay that sets it apart in choosing the colour of your car from anywhere else in the world?

I think the same colour would be called differently in different parts of the world. When I was in the US, I owned a Pontiac TransAM and the color was pewter metallic. Now pewter metallic looks like the galaxy gray in India.

This is really tough decision to make. Civic looks awesome in both the colors.

Well, when I go here the 3rd option is "Galaxy Gray Metallic" and the 4th is "Nighthawk Black Pearl". Do they regionalize the site differently elsewhere? Sounds like the color names are close enough. Location can sometimes affect which colors are actually available. And sometimes it affects which colors are practical. In Arizona for example it would be pretty foolish to get a black car, and several of the other darker colors look questionable too - they would absorb too much heat from the sun in summer.

Apparently in Mumbai this is not such a concern.

Personally, I prefer the forest green that Honda used to have. As that's apparently not available, I like the atomic blue. Of the two choices you listed, I prefer the nighthawk black. But I'm not really sure why anyone else's opinion should matter here, other than maybe other family members who might also drive it. Everyone likes different things, and you just need to please yourself here. Don't stress over it, enjoy it.

Go for "Galaxy Gray".

We used when I lived with my parent to have a very simple rule for cars: my father could pick any model as long as it was a BMW 525i, and then my mother could pick any colour for it as long as it was metalic dark blue.

I can't afford a BMW but I do keep to the metalic dark blue.

I felt that same.

But tell me Ankur Sharma, where will you drive your car in Mumbai? Lots of traffic and very less parking space. Better go for high end bike.

Chetan, I already do drive and park in Mumbai. So when i get my new car, I wont have any problems cuz i wont be using both at the same time

So has anybody tried the paddle shift manual option in the automatic version. Any experience with that?

Its just that I like both and am finding it tough to decide. So i just thought I would find out what seems cool to others. Hope to make up my mind soon.

Consider this as your biggest achievement.

It's virtually impossible to keep a black (or white) car clean. And it's amazing how dirty a silver/gray car can get without looking neglected.

I had a two silver/grey cars at one point and observed that the pavement on the highway at a medium distance looked about the same color, and so did the sky. The car might be running stealth mode in traffic, which felt dangerous. See what various colors look like on the road around you. Maybe that will help choose.

The Nighthawk Black might lose its shine over time in the harsh Bombay sun. You might have to wax it every 2-3 months to maintain the shine, if you wanna keep the car for long term. Also the black car might absorb too much sun and heat up faster...thereby making you switch on the AC for long hours.

As for the gray, or a metallic silver -- Now that is one color which does lose shine but definitely not as fast as Black. Also the scratches( of which there will be many, due to the millions of cyclists that Bombay has and who will cut you off at the stop-lights ) will be less seen on a silver paint as compared to those on black.

So the silver/gray might give you longevity in terms of looks.

All of the above is only in comparison between silver and black. That is not to say that a silver car will not heat up!

All of the above could also be biased because it comes from a proud owner of a METALLIC SILVER Toyota 4Runner

Thnx guys for all the feedback. It was useful. The points I have taken are that it is tough to keep a black car clean. Scratches would be more prominent on a black car. So I guess I will go with a Galaxy Gray.

As far as paddle shift is concerned, what I understand is that it is almost similar to cruise control. I was thinking that it would be something more exciting

Can you set cruise control to zero kmh? I don't think you'll ever need it for anything faster in Bombay traffic

That is just one thing - Civic Automatic Galaxy Grey.

Damn....I just realized that this translates to approx 30k USD. And isnt that roughly 2 to 2.5 times the cost of the Civic in the US. And the difference is while in US, Civic and Corolla fall in the economy segment, over here they fall in the luxury segment.

Well developed countries are the first target audience for luxury item manufacturer. What is their 2nd / 3rd grade product in developed countries � sometime it is 1st grade product in developing/poor countries.

They're midrange cars in Europe too, costing something like �25-30K (depending on features).

Yes, it comes with air bags. And of course, the paddle shift which I am still confused about because the dealers themselves are not able to explain how exactly it is used. But they try to act confident and bullshit something or the other. Now I am patiently waiting for the car and the manual so that I can find out myself.

Paddle shifts are a compromise between traditional manual shift transmission (gear and clutch) and the automatic transmission. I test drove an Audi with their version (an advanced and smart version) called DSG - Direct Shift Gearbox with the up and down gearshift buttons on the steering wheel (pretty much like the F-1 cars).
