‘java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: Bad version number in .class file’

i have upgrade Tomcat server from 4.1.31 to 6.0.18 and java 5 update 5 to java 5 update 18
while stating the application it show the error message in the catalina log file ‘java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: Bad version number in .class file’

how to solve the above problem.
