Pinging a Remote DataBase

Hi Masters ,

The Remote DataBase sometimes gets down .

so i need to check from my machine

Please tell me what is the command , How can i ping the port and ip on which the DataBase has been installed???

For which database and which OS ? I would use DB client to check if server is running, say sqlplus (from Oracle).

I am also using Oracle as backend and SQLDeveloper as IDE , can you please tell me whats the command ?

You should have your oracle client installed right (to connect to remote server) ? check it if its bundled with tools (sqlplus)

Ravi,

Also , you can ensure the ip and port of remote machine is acessible by simple telnet .
telnet ipmachine portno

Oracle's database listener ping utility is tnsping.
> tnsping <database>
