ExamLab exam simulator was a free Sun exam simulator which is specially designed for SCJP candidates. It was initially designed only for the SCJP 5.0 (CX 310-055) examination, and it seems that it is highly populated here at JavaRanch. As you know, it contained 1 diagnostic exam, 3 practice exams, and 1 final exam. Most importantly, it simulated the software interface of the real Sun exam. Since I released the ExamLab 5.0 product on November, 2008, up to now, there are lots of users who downloaded and used this freeware for their preparations. I’m glad to inform you that there are about 4000 users who downloaded this freeware up to now. I’m pretty sure that most of these users are JavaRanch folks.
Since I launched this product, I received such a lot of requests about to implement more additional features on this product, and especially many folks requested me to make a new version available for the latest SCJP 6.0 examination too.
After considering those user feedbacks, I tempted to make a version for the latest SCJP 6.0 examination, and to include some additional features like, reviewing drag-n-drop questions, saving exam history and much more. I also had to make some new set of tricky questions, which should be newly added to the ExamLab for SCJP 6.0 version.
Finally, we achieved it. Now you can freely download the latest version of ExamLab for SCJP 5.0 from our newly upgraded ExamLab web site. Please feel free to download our latest version to have an experience on these features, which are newly added to this product. All of these new features were implemented upon the requests and feedbacks of ExamLab users.
Most importantly, I newly released another product of ExamLab, which is specially designed for the SCJP 6.0 (CX 310-065) examination. There are more than 20 questions *newly* added to this product, especially questions about java.io.Console, java.util.NavigableSet and java.util.NavigableMap. This version also contains the same features, which are newly added to the ExamLab 5.0 product. The price of this ExamLab 6.0 simulator is................. No absolutely! It is still a freeware. So if you are preparing for the SCJP 6.0 examination and currently using the ExamLab 5.0 version, you can migrate to this new ExamLab 6.0 version right now.
I must hereby thankful for ExamLab users, especially for those who gave their valuable feedbacks and donations to improve this freeware. At last but not least, I would specially thank Jesper Young (who is a bartender here), for performing the Alfa testing case on this new version. Many thanks Jesper for spending your valuable time on that.
There is a little drawback which I *should* mentioned here. Please note that ExamLab is currently designed only for the Windows XP, 2000, and 9x operating systems only. It may or may not work on other Windows operating systems such as Vista.
Thank You Mr. Devaka . We all know that this release is going to help a lot and lot of SCJP hunters/aspirants .
I downloaded the kit and am about to go through it.
Thanks again for this valuable contribution of your's.
And for the rest of the people (including me ) ENJOY!!!
Happy news... Therefore I am deep grateful to you...
I consider you hero of the year at Java Ranch !!! Long live, Devaka !!!
Thanks again,

Devaka,
Thank you for your hard work. This is some excellent news for every SCJP candidate. Anyone that doesn't use your product is missing out big time, and I recommend it to everyone.
All code in my posts, unless a source is explicitly mentioned, is my own.
Actually it is already tested on three Vista computers, but it works on only one of them. That is why I wrote it may or may not work on Vista. I'll try to make a patch in future. For now, just let me know if it is worked.
Devaka.

Hmmm....I wonder if I can get my hands on a computer using XP.....
Maybe I will get lucky and it will work on my Vista laptop.
Anyway, I am quite excited about this since I am currently studying for the SCJP!

Oops, I just downloaded it few days ago. Should I download it again? Anything changes?

Well, if you are preparing for the SCJP 6.0 examination, it's better to download ExamLab for SCJP 6.0, because it is especially designed for the SCJP 6.0 examination. But if you are preparing for the SCJP 5.0, you are not highly required to download the latest version of ExamLab 5.0. But there are some useful features newly added to the new version.

Hi Devaka,
I believe the problem for vista has something to do with MS JET driver for data access. Are you using JET 3.5 driver in the extract executable. By default vista comes with 4.0 --- 4.0.9704.0 Windows Vista SP1 and Windows Server 2008
Also, when I run the extract for JET set-up it does not copy couple of dlls. not sure where am i heading

Hi reji,
Thank you for your observation .The problem is not *only* with the JET driver access. It is just a one problem only. But there are few other problems with it including the Vista registry access and much more.

Thanks a lot..... it was amazing
I tried it in vista. it works without any problem but one thing i did was , i didn't install the JET (i don't know whether it correct or not)
Devaka your examLab has a good list of questions but it would be helpful if we can print them and study. Now you would talk about copyrights but then even the commercial ones have printing option.
Also, if copyrights are to be violated they can be even without the print option

Seems you are correct. Have to consider about that....

Thanks Ajith.
Devaka,
This is what I tried.
1) Removed the earlier installation
2) Ran installable again and exit the set-up when JET installation starts
3) Goto installation directoy and righ click on exec and choose properties.
4) Uncheck the Compatibility mode if not already unchecked
5) Right click the ExamLan exe and run the executable as administrator( or give user admin rights , i had given but did not work) so started as administrator. dont know what diff.. anyways it worked this way on Vista
Thanks. Just reached home and I guess , will be able to take diagnostic test on weekend
Nice observation Reji, this will be surely helpful in order create a Vista version.
