I took and passed the SCJP exam last summer when it was about Java 1.4. I studied using "Sun Certified Programmer & Developer for Java 2" by Kathy Sierra and Bert Bates. My question for the authors is: Is your book designed to specifically help those who might want to upgrade to Java 5 or 6 certification?

It's a book about SCJP 1.6. Now, you could still use it to pass SCJP5, but what's the point in passing 1.5 when 1.6 is out there ?

Best reason in the world - my organization only recently migrated from 1.4 to 5 and has given no indication of being interested in another change.

There is not that much difference between java 5.0 and java 6.0, so if you are not going anywhere you may go for java 5.0, but will strongly recomend java 6.0

There may be a lot more differences in Java5 and Java6.

But as far as SCJP is concerned, the difference between SCJP 5 and 6 objectives, there's a few additions in SCJP 6 detailed here: http://faq.javaranch.com/java/ScjpFaq#16diff15 .

That's why everyone is recommending SCJP 6 over 5.

That doesn't prevent you from studying for 6
