The xkcd guy posted a translation of Washington's Farewell Address into the common tongue. Amazing stuff. The country didn't listen.

Here is a long detailed and (sigh) serious book on the subject: Doing Our Own Thing: The Degradation of Language and Music and Why We Should, Like, Care.

So can we have a book giveaway in MD?

The subject at hand is how relevant George Washington's farewell address is to the modern world. I don't think there's anything wrong at all with doing this "translation", because the original's language is so archaic that very careful study is required to get much meaning from it. Translating it into language everyone can easily understand makes these powerful words accessible to people today. Not a bad thing at all.

EFH: The subject at hand is...

Well, that's your subject. Mine is whatever I chose it to be. (Almost Alice in Wonderland...)
