Have you ever tried intercontinental travel advice using Google Maps?

For example: Seattle, WA to Paris, France. Take a look at step 18 in the itinerary.

The Reg has picked up the story as well: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/03/30/swim_the_atlantic/

It apparently happens with many (or all) transatlantic routes.

I am cracking up. Seriously, drive up to the very edge of the country, get out, swim for THREE THOUSAND MILES, and then continue to drive. Apparently if you take this specific route and happen to survive a 3400 mile swim across the Atlantic, they will reward you a car in which you can drive to your final destination. "Congratulations, you are literally a super hero."
