I am trying to port a J2EE application deployed in a weblogic server in Hardware configuration X to another configuration Y. Y is a upgraded hardware configuration. what are the basic checks i have to make after the application is ported to Y. Hardware checks? Application Server version & Compatibility Checks? artifacts checks? what else?

Would JMX & MBeans be helpful?

I agree. Here's the link: http://ej-technologies/jprofiler - if it wasn't for jprofiler, we would need to run our stuff on 16 servers instead of 3.
