Hello all, I have an old computer running Windows and I want to replace it and run Ubuntu instead. Just curious do I need to format the existing hard drive (NTFS now) before I install linux? Or will the Ubunti installation procedure will do the format conversion for me?

The installer will allow you to define Linux partitions and to keep the Windows partitions (if you want to). You might need to resize your partitions before you install Linux, however. Partition Magic is one app that will allow a Windows user to to that (and it also supports Linux).
