I drank my first and last in a promotional campaign .. and immediately hated it ... It tastes likes a medicine..is not cheap ($1.6 in India)....and does not work...I can go to sleep immediately after having one ....
Don't like it at all. As you say, it reminds me of medicine I had when I was a child, and it is full of sugar. I don't need to introduce any more sugar into my diet.
The company where a friend worked had a tradition that in the afternoon they would all go out and buy a RB or sports drink to help them get through the last part of the day. My point was that if you're drinking sports drink, you should be doing, y'know, sport. He was having trouble with his weight, but sometimes I wonder.
The Jinseng stuff should help. I have never had any sport drink and never feel the need to. Not meaning that I never play sports, I just dont find the need to have foreign "chemicals" in my body. I would rather feel tired and drop to sleep.

Now seriously to answer the question, I drank it as part of a bet and regretted it. In fact I drank Dr Peper as well once as part of a bet.... all these drinks lie somewhere in those category.. may drink it if there is some ego issue involved, else i prefer water
Well, if you exercised excessively and you drank water only, sports drinks could prevent you dropping dead due to chemical imbalances (lack of salts). Not that I have ever been in any danger...
Most of these drinks are nothing but sugar and whatever other junk is in them. Not really good for your health or teeth.
If you work out, drink gatorade or something like that. Red Bull is almost like soda. Nothing good about that unless you like the taste. But otherwise, those drinks are not good for you at all.
Yes when you first drink, you definitely not like it, you need to develop that kind of test. Its something like all doesn't like smoking, but after some time they can't stay without it.
Well, I liked it well enough right away. The taste isn't great but it's nice enough; I have no problem with it. I sometimes drink it on long car trips, as it's more effective than caffeine at keeping me awake. But I don't drink it regularly because (a) it's expensive, and (b) I don't want to build up an immunity like I have for caffeine.
I never understood the attraction to those kind of drinks.
I mean I can get a 24-30 pack of water for like 5-6 bucks or even less. I can get a case of beer for around 10 bucks. Sometimes 30 packs of cheap beer can run for like 12-15 bucks, maybe less.
Yet Red Bull costs like 30 bucks for a 12 pack.... I'm sorry but I know I'll get refreshed with water. I know it's cheap. I know I can get buzzed or trashed with beer. 12 cans for almost 30 bucks is a rip off for something that does absolutely nothing. It won't get you buzzed. It won't refresh you. It's like drinking soda and if I wanted soda, I could get it for a lot less than 30 bucks. Honestly, if you try a red bull now and again, that's one thing, but you have to be stupid to purchase a case of Red Bull for almost 30 bucks.
Like Jim, I've used Red Bull for long car trips, and it's been quite effective. But I don't like it.
This "energy drink" thing is totally out of control. Having said that, I've been using 5-Hour Energy, which has no sugar and only about as much caffeine as a regular cup of coffee. On the other hand, it is very medicinal tasting, and contains 8333% of the RDA of vitamin B12, and 2000% of the RDA of vitamin B6. (Yes, those are thousands -- not hundreds.) Red Bull is awesome! ...for those times you're tired but still want to hang out and drink more beers. GingerAle and RB is good, or two straight up will definitely let me hang for the duration - especially if I've had a few very late nights. I know many people who drink it the same way.
Seems like all you guys are showing your true colors... I mean taste, schmaste. Who CARES if it tastes good!! It Works!!!
thank you.

but thats not how it should be. you drink coffee cos it tastes good and keeps you awake. if I wanted to keep awake I could as well take a medicine instead of drinking red bull

But taste can be (a) subjective, and (b) acquired. Many people don't like the taste of coffee when they first encounter it. Same for beer. Or avocados. Later they may well grow to like them. Or not. Personally I liked Red Bull well enough when I first tasted it. Others don't. I also saw that it was fairly effective as a stimulant, for me. Others may have found it ineffective. Fine. One way or another, Red Bull seems to have found a niche in the market. Those who don't like it, or don't find it effective, don't need to drink it. But no one should be shocked or offended at the idea that some other people have different taste and different experience. That's hardly a new idea in the world.
