Dear Friends,

There is nothing to argue whether to go for certification or not, esp at this downturn situation.

However, just wonder, will it be good if we do SUN certifications, esp SUN has been sold to Oracle. Will it worth to invest our huge money in SUN certifications?

After SUN has been taken over by Oracle, due to change in any policies or so, to make all the SUN certifications before the takeover, to void?

Any thought on this...?

Oracle acquires Sun and Sun is in safe hands (I believe). As far as certifications go, the level of questions and value of certification should rather improve now. Not like, somebody solves "dumps" for two days and get 100 percent in exam. Certifications before takeover wont be void. Go ahead.

Oracle will have to honour certificates issued by Sun. Just like the financial and legal outstandings of Sun gets inherited by Oracle.
However Oracle may rename the certifications, certification pre-requisites etc.
This is what happened when IBM acquired other tech companies.

I'm not sure what Oracle has to do with this. The certificate states that someone had a certain level of knowledge at a certain point in time. That will forever be true, no matter what happens to Sun, or Java, or Oracle. There's nothing Oracle can do to "void" this, just like there's nothing they have to do to "honor" it.

Let's hope Oracle will consider SCJP also as a qualifying certificate for their OCWCD(yet to be formed) and OCEA exams if someone is not having latest OCJP.

You can search this forum to find many topics related to the benefits of getting certified. The learning path that you take for a certification is more important than the certification itself. So it should not matter much

I never disagree with going for certification. My worry is more on the validity rather than benefits and other facts.

If the exam is still being conducted, then I think it is considered valid

Not sure whether you understand my query. The validity of the certificates (Guaranteed by SUN) as of now is ok... I agree.... However what will happen when Oracle take over SUN? Either SUN and/or Oracle should provide open statement for this.

What do you mean "satisfies"..... I'm a Java guy gurpreet singh ..... be nice.

I'm raising this to get right response from right people, for the sake of all java professionals (including you, if you are a java guy).

No hard feelings.
