This week's book giveaway is in the Agile and other Processes forum. We're giving away four copies of The Mikado Method and have Ola Ellnestam and Daniel Brolund on-line! See this thread for details.
I am a real person who has real friends and I prefer to go out with those real friends to real places to have a really nice time.
All those real friends mean I do not have any time left for "social" networks, making me unsocial and unfit for society!
i'm not going to argue the 'usefulness' of twitter with you. Like many things, you will either like/use it or you won't. but just because YOU don't doesn't mean there is none.
Think about the billions of folk in the world who would think "what use is there for javaranch?"
Never ascribe to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.

That brings up a good question Fred, what use is there for javaranch?
I mean to say here at javaranch we do not have any use of twitter.

Not sure what you're trying to say. Web sites don't use Twitter - people do. There are plenty of JavaRanch members who do use it, and plenty who don't.
I could certainly see Twitter being used by JavaRanch staff as a communications medium, just like we're now using the Ranch Office forum.
I've had a Twitter account for a few weeks and initially also wondered what the point of it was.
But then I had a meeting with a few ex-colleagues (who were all hip with MacBooks and iPhones...) and they were saying "What?! You're not even using Twitter? You should really have a look at it!".
So I did, and I found a good use for it: I'm following the NASA, who are posting updates on the Hubble servicing mission this week, and I like it a lot.
And I'm going to JavaOne soon, and I'll be tweeting from there myself.
Well thanks for NASA links jepser.
But I have a question like why should we always change the portal , I mean to say for scrapping people use orkut for twitting people use twitter.
Whats this ?
This is just wastage of time , you have to believe on one portal which will really satisfy your needs.
I am doubtful how many people are agree with my thought ?

The problem is different people will have different needs and different likes and dislikes. So what you may think as a tool for invasion on your privacy, might be a very efficient way of communication for some people.
I twitter, and it is a mixture between broadcasting short thought to maintaining contact with other. I have found twitter more useful sonce putting twibble on my phoine and twitterfox in my browser.
