You can get the underground into London and a train from Paddington, though it might be quicker to get the bus to Reading and catch a train from there, missing out London.
Sure, you can take bags onto the bus and train. I agree with Paul - the bus to Reading and a train from there is probably quickest. The tube into London from Heathrow takes forever.

Erm not if you take the Heathrow Express Train which will take you straight to Paddingtob Station.
Yes it more expensive but gets you there faster and in comfort (unlike the tube or a bus)
When you get to Heathrow look for the signs for the Heathrow Express, buy a ticket there and get the train to Paddington, the journey takes 15 minutes and they are lovely comfortable air conditioned trains. Bags will be no problem at all.
Pounding at a thick stone wall won't move it, sometimes, you need to step back to see the way around.

If you can get a bus to Bristol direct from the airport then it won't be too bad and it's quite an easy journey along one motorway, takes 2 hours. I would recommmend though for speed, ease and comfort getting the Heathrow Express direct to Paddington station and then the train to Bristol from here.
If you are considering the National Express option, think about which Terminal you will be arriving at at the airport. The main Coach station is in the Central area (Terminals 1,2& 3). I know SOME coaches stop at Terminal 4 but not all so if you are arriving at Terminal 4 you may need to get a bus or take a short trip on the underground to get to Terminals 1,2,& 3 and the Coach Station.
