If I don't use multi-core architecture, will I get any benefits from reading this book?

If you are interested in scaling your applications, then yes. But I think you'll find that any hardware you have is multi-core today, even the most basic laptops have "dual-core" processors in general, and servers go beyond that. The issue addressed by the book is that most software does not take advantage of these capabilities, yet this is the only way that "Moore's Law" will continue to have any meaning -- adding more cores to servers.

Given that, Software Pipelines works great across many servers too (and even better if they are multi-core).
