I am trying to learn to debug servlet on weblogic . In one of the site it is written as

Locate startWSL.cmd and add the following variable DEBUG_OPTS:

set DEBUG_OPTS = -Xdebug -Xrunjdwp:transport= dt_socket,address=1044,server=y,suspend=n

I am confused with this .Please tell me why is this necessary for debugging.

Thank you

Hi,

the information you have provided is for remote debugging. It'll make weblogic open a socket and than you can connect a remote debug thread to weblogic, usually using Eclipse or some other IDE.

The easyest way to debug is running weblogic from inside your tool. If you're using eclipse you can install weblogic eclipse plugin provided by oracle or even easyer will be if you use workshop and run weblogic inside it. It's gonna be only a matter of running the server in debug mode from IDE.
