Hi,

I have a suggestion. why don't we have a separate dedicated forum for Spring under the Application frameworks ?

Would like the javaranch people to take initiative asap.

Thanks.

Why not ask Spring questions in the Application Frameworks? After all, that's what that forum is for.

What's the urgency?

I think we shouldn't reply why by why not, because most of the time, it doesn't explain anything.
It's like if someone asks why Struts has its own forum, it would be uninformative to reply why it should not.

I believe JavaRanch has some criteria to decide whether a framework should have its own forum or not.

I reason why i replied with a "why not" is because, the "Application Frameworks" forum already states that the forums is for "Spring, WebWork, Tapestry, OSGi, etc". I was trying to figure out how a separate new forum just for Spring would help?

Its quite simple. If there are just too many topics related to spring in the application frameworks forum, that it is becoming difficult to ask questions that is not spring related, it will get its own forum. Currently, it looks like the application frameworks forum is getting about 3 questions a day -- so I don't think any framework (spring included) is jumping out as needing its own forum.

Clear explanation. Thanks.

If one of the current staff steps forward and is willing to get it rolling, I would give the okie dokie.

I think we would find about 30 existing spring threads and move them to the forum. Then we could schedule about three book promotions for the forum that used Spring books.

And .... presto! A new forum!

But first .... we need someone on the staff willing to do the work to get it all rolling.

Somewhat ironically we already have two promo set up about Spring. One of which starts tomorrow. I'll look into making this happen tonight. A few (5K out of 108K) e-mails have gone out advertising the promo in "Application Frameworks." We can leave a sticky there explaining it.

It exists now. Since you got your new forum, be sure to use it. We've seen people ask for new forums and disappear making the forum a ghost town. Which weighs on our minds the next time someone wants a new forum.
