[Burkhard]: The Beatles?

Well, that's what I was going for, yes. (Highlight the "blank" third line in my last post to see.) EFH has one extra "na" in his post, but I think that's obviously a mistake on his part, don't you?

Incidentally, I think the timings are a bit off in your notation:

I would say that should be:

bar

half note
quarter note
quarter note

bar

sixteenth note
sixteenth note
eighth note
half note
quarter rest

bar

sixteenth note
sixteenth note
eighth note
half note
quarter note

bar

half note
half rest

(repeat)

This appears to be the amino acid sequence for one of the mutated segments of the gene that predisposes individuals to Meaningless Drivel. These aberrations manifest in myriad ways, including an inexplicable (and highly communicable) tenancy to ascribe melody to seemingly random syllables. Fortunately, I have proven myself immune to the lure of driveling in any form.

Oh, well, the rhythm gave it away. Try the Don Ellis arrangement and see if it doesn't take longer than this to guess the tune.

Jim, for the additional na I left the extra bar at the end.

Yes, the rhythm was wrong. But I've never been to Liverpool to my excuse.
But the revised version

still sounds a bit odd.

This appears to be the amino acid sequence for one of the mutated segments of the gene that predisposes individuals to Meaningless Drivel.

The poly asparagine-alanine sequence is found in an outer membrane protein of the marine bacterium Vibrio fischeri. But I don't know what it does there.
It can also be found in bacterial NUDIX hydrolase. This is not a unix variant but an enzyme that hydrolyses organic pyrophospates (including for example ATP).
NANANANANANANANANANANANA can also be found near the amino terminus of cobyric acid synthase of the gram negative bacterium Burkholderia thailandensis and somewhere in the middle of the large subunit of Methylmalonyl-CoA mutase. Of the latter I show the amino acid sequence:

As you see here's the nana sequence a bit longer that the Friedman-Hill-variant (NANA-FH). The enzyme is also part of the human proteome, but in humans the NANA sequence is not conserved:

Query = from bug, Sbjct = human

By the way, did anyone of you just google the nana?

Yours,
Bu.

As we all should be. What concerns me is that the hit numbers don't simply decrease as the length of "na" increases.

For example, there are only 640 hits for the 20-char "nananananananananana," but 3,510 hits for the 22-char "nanananananananananana." And only 19 hits for the 56-char "nananananananananananananananananananananananananananana," but 354 hits for the 58-char "nanananananananananananananananananananananananananananana."
