Do we need a prior understanding of j2me to work on blackberry applications? or is it entirely different. I'am facing a difficulty in developing blackberry applications. I need help.

In blackberry you can develop two different applications i.e. Midlets or Blackberry applications. Blackberry application uses RIM's own libraries. However there are few things which are common to both, like HttpConnections. Recordstore management system etc. The basic difference between two is the user interface part. So prior knowledge of J2ME might be helpful but its not necessary.

Blackberry's UI stack is quite different from J2ME. So, technically you don't have to know J2ME. However, as Swastik mentioned, a good understanding of J2ME will be quite helpful.
