Help with turning off scrolling in a dropdown list

Hi, I have a dropdown list, created by using the html ptions in an html:select tag and a vertical scroll bar keeps appearing, even though there is loads of room to display the whole box. I'm using IE by the way. Does anyone know how to prevent this? I'm relatively new to all of this so don't worry about patronising me with explaining the basics. Chances are you'll be helping.
