"Last Supper" brings internet to virtual standstill

Milan, 27 October 2007 - The internet slowed to a crawl today as an online visualization system served up "supersized" portions of Da Vinci's "Last Supper." A glut of 16 billion pixels jammed tubes worldwide, compromising an estimated 27.3% of the network's total bandwidth. As of 6:00 PM GMT, several million of the original pixels remained unaccounted for and were presumed to be stuck somewhere in the tubes. "Many of these pixels are irreplaceable," confirmed a certified graphics technician, speaking on the condition of anonymity. "Roughly 503 million colors [are] unique to this particular work of art, so it's obviously critical we get those pixels back." In an attempt to flush network residue towards recovery servers, web administrators are generating back pressure in adjoining conduits by alternatively uploading and downloading from sites adjacent to haltadefinizione.com. If unsuccessful, they will be forced to reboot, and any unsaved information will be lost.

Probably a watermark of the company's name Hal 9000 as a copy protection scheme.

There's 1's and 0's spilled all over the floors of isp's around the globe because of this. Conspiracy theorists suspect hazmat precautions are in order! Lawyers are lining up around the block for the opportunity to get a chance at the enormous liability implications of the lost pixels!

Aloha,
Doug
