Although a lot of people say that LCD is preferable over Plasma, I am not sure...I think its probably because of the longevity of LCD. However, with LCD you have Ghosting, somewhat washed out colors and the pure black problem.

I have both at home and I feel the picture quality of the Plasma is better. Its just my opinion, maybe you would want to Google it and find some more info.

Also, if you do want to buy an LCD nothing beats the Sharp Aquos models.

Same in my house. How big do you want?
Seems that this year, 42" is the sweet spot in local (US) markets. Its getting so 42" is not "big" anymore. I saw a 90+" plasma in a store the other day. I was not impressed with the picture, I think you have to be far away from something that big.

I didn't know this until recently, but here's the viewing distance chart for various screen sizes. I have a 32" LCD at one end of the room and viewing from the other end of the room about 12-14 feet across, the screen is not big enough.

As for LCD vs Plasma, that debate is long over and LCD won. AFAIK, Plasma only sells in the larger screen models, because making larger LCD planes are still difficult - but LCDs are getting there. Newer LCDs already pretty good with the contrast ratio / black levels etc and catching up fast.

I have been told that this was caused by Sharp Electronics, in that they took a chance, and invested huge (in LCDs) to create the Aquios line of TVs. Personally, I have never been a fan of Sharp, but took a look.

I bought a 42" Aquios, 1080P. It looks really really good. I highly recommend it.
