How the listeners work s basically

Any one in Emprise application ,we use listener such queue listener, message listener ,port listener etc. How the listeners work s basically??


Listener keep on checking any particular event occurs or not?. Then jvm utilize more resource for this??

I read the article ,it is good. but does not contain how the listener work details in depth

Could you refer some thing else

If you told us what you do understand about how listeners work, then we could fill in the gaps. Right now we have to guess what you do or do not understand, which is a hit-or-miss proposition, and thus not very appealing. This is of course true for all questions, not just this one.

There they are saying that concept of listener and how to configure the listener

But I like to know the low level implementation

EX:
1) Port is a memory area
2) JVM keep on checking that memory area whether any signals appears there or not?
3) If any signals appear then it has to activate the listener?

I am not sure about the correctness of my points??
