Would it fail as massively as everything else Google has tried?

Everything Google does sucks, except for their search engine, which is good, but not as good as it was before people learned how to 'jimmy' the rankings.

Google is a one trick pony. I just wish the pundits pushing Google stock, like the hapless Jim Cramer, would realize that nothing google does except searching works. Anyone ever hear of Froogle? Google checkout? Now they want to buy a wireless spectrum? A failed Google wireless band maybe.

And more to the point, google will fall, just like Yahoo. Google killed Yahoo, because Yahoo was a one trick pony, but Google's pony was prettier. As soon as someone figures out a better searching facility, like a social network like Facebook or something, well, Google will fall as well, and you'll be picking up their shares for five cents, not $500.

Wow, Cameron, have any problems with Google?

Actually, I use Froogle more than any other price comparison website out there. Why? Because it has the best results. I try PriceGrabber and I get 2 or 3 vendors selling a product at a high price. I use Froogle and I get almost a hundred and prices that are at least 30% cheaper than what I saw on PriceGrabber.

As for other Google products that reign supreme. Picasa, incredibly easy to get your photos up to the web, and the Windows Rich UI makes it so easy for everyone, that every photo album email I get is from Picasa, even my Uncle, who is so technically challenged uses it.

Some other "unknown" Google stuff that lots of people are using. GWT, widgets for creating websites. The new open source Phone development. The open source Social Network Apis that all the big names are a part of.

OH, wait isn't there also GMail. Yeah, no one uses that! btw, about GMail, I hate one thing about it and that is when it freezes my Firefox for a second or two when loading. But it is the best at handling spam, compared to my other email accounts on various other free email sites.

And I almost forgot. Google doesn't make money on the search site, so to speak, they make most of their money from advertising, and the Google Ad Sense, which everyone uses on their website, and soon to advertising on radio too. Google is also a huge contributor to JSRs and helping create Java better.

On another note, Google would not be able to buy Microsoft because it would be a monoploy that wouldn't get past the government agencies.

Mark is such a show off.

I still think Google is a one trick pony, although a few services that were mentioned I'd forgotten about. I'd forgotten about GWT.

I have no problem with Google per se. I use it as my search engine of choice. My problem is with the irrational love affair crack pushers, I mean stock pushers, like Jim Cramer and the like have with Google. It's wrong, and the appropriate $200 drop in share price is just the tip.

That one trick is the ad revenue, and of course, that is largely generated through the search engine. Even the email and photo sharing, well, I see that as peripheral stuff.

But I just can't appreciate Google's valuations. If Facebook has demonstrated anything, it's that when something better comes along, people will flock to it. What happens when someone builds a better search engine? Well, Google will be cast aside like it was Yahoo or something.

Now, where do we go to talk about how much I really hate Apple?

I was laughing at the phrase "so technically challenged" for the last 5 minutes. Good one Mark.
