Sun is getting rid of SCJP6.0 and 5.0

Q: Will this exam replace the current Java Programmer exam?
A: Sun believes that performance based Java Programming certification provides both candidates and employers with greater assurance that their skills will meet the needs of the Java Programmer role. Sun will retire the prior versions of the Java Programmer certification in the near future. Sun will provide a public notification of at least 90 days in advance of any exam retirement.

Umm... I dont know what to say to this. I am however very interested in the BETA.

Q: How does the Java Programmer Plus Performance exam work? Do I need to write specific syntax, comments, etc?
A: The exam evaluates your ability to write Java code that will successfully compile and return the results requested in the problem statement. The test leverages the Code Challenge engine presented previously at JavaOne. The engine evaluates the code by running a number of test harnesses against the code and comparing the results. Your code must compile properly, but is not checked for specific syntax, comments or style - it just has to meet the requirements of the problem statement.

Whoa mama ! Now students have to code to pass the exam ? This brings in a lot of questions. Kinda like coding on the topcoder site. They will probably ask you to code and expect results against a set of test cases. Atleast it will (might ?) help reduce the number of cheaters.

Very very interesting. Thanks for sharing vuthlarhi / Aakash .

Yes! Protectored coding - a way to prove people can code. This sounds great.

I think this might make getting SCJP now even more practical. It's always nice to say "I got certified long before they even switched to this new format."

Everyone always wants to upgrade thier certification. I've got a cert on Java2, and I love going into an interview and saying "my skills go back this far, and I've watched the language develop and grow since then."

I wonder if they'll go this route with their other exams?

Seems two discussions are going on:

Matias, welcome to JavaRanch.

I understand that you have a website about SCJP in Spanish.

Please note that JavaRanch is an English forum, and we require our ranchers to write their posts in English. So, please provide a translation into English in your future posts on JavaRanch.
