However, the person with an id of 00000001 is currently "James Yingst". i believe this occasionally changes, as the moderators do tend to, on occasion, play jokes on others and 'hack' the system. [ April 28, 2008: Message edited by: fred rosenberger ]
Never ascribe to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.

That may depend on how you decide 'first post'. If you read Paul W. and Kathy S.'s bios (here), you'll see that originally there were two distinct web sites that were merged into what is now the JavaRanch. So, do you want the first post in the forums Paul had created, or the first post once the sites came together?

You do know, at this point, it will be much more fun for us to keep you in "suspense" and wishing and needing, rather than actually answer your post now.
The first post hasn't happened yet, as the functionality for a first post was not included with the saloon's software. We hope to upgrade this in a future version.
The first post was a link to Louis Armstrong playing Last Post backwards on his trumpet, but it had to be deleted due to people who claimed they could hear voices saying "Paul is dead".
In the first few milliseconds after the Big Bang, the Laws of Physics hadn't coalesced yet and so things (meaning all the stuff of The Bang) could travel much faster than the speed of light. This explains much of why our Universe is expanding, and why there is no center to the Universe since space-time itself is also expanding, and why there can be no definitive first post. Or something like that.
