I think the original basis for this is a Mayan Calendar, which completes some sort of cycle in 2012. Once the suggestion was made, plenty of people have been looking for "evidence" to support the notion.

The Mesoamerican Long Count calendar forms the basis for a New Age belief, first forecast by Jos� Arg�elles, that a cataclysm will take place on or about 21 December 2012, a forecast that mainstream Mayanist scholars consider a mis-interpretation.

Does this mean I should ditch learning all those j2ee frameworks in favor of how to build a really big raft in the hope that I am those chosen one.

A 50-minute adaptation of the 2-hour film "<CITE>Breaking the Maya Code</CITE>" will be shown April 8 on the PBS series NOVA, under the title "<CITE>Cracking the Maya Code</CITE>".

Sounds like a chance for Drivel, our stake in heart of Meaning can be driven in classis MD style. Probably make more sense to Henry too.

Sounds like we could explore the Toba event as the candidate date, or an upcoming near-miss by a space rock ( well documented in legitimate science ) that is to occur around 2036 - maybe their calender had an off by one that propogated or something, we could assist Arvind Birla in veneration contemplations. I think there's something about 2012 in Sikh religion as well, remember reading about it in Sarah MacDonald's Holy Cow, that Sikh schools are training their young to survive and help others some massive catastrophe thats to happen in 2012 etc.

Imagine how depressed and disappointed those kids are going to be on the Christmas eve 2012! Now that is a worrying thought!
