The site is moderate fun because it clearly is authentic effort to use the web as intended. Those holes are made with a large boring tool mounted on the back of a truck designed for that purpose. Drilling one way out in the forest is either a promotional gimmick in an area hard for tourisim or is a stunt from an individual with the same idea. According to the comment by Assasin, the holes were made by an unauthorized group of geologists looking for quartz.

I can assure you, these holes are a consequence of organized human effort. For one thing, look at the grass around the surface: Covered by a perfect layer of autum leaves, an almost astro-turf like green is evident. Probably grass, this is not the grass we know. We could comment on the grass used by the people that dug the holes but it looks to me like one would get stung by all the bees gathering around the honeypot.
Look at the 'partially-used ultra-secret mountainside-bunker, for sale CHEAP just a few pages away. Throw in the resort camp jeep ride and mail-order brides and it looks like folks have two things:
1. An extremely good sense of humor. 2. Are not the type to spend the day glued to the glass-eyed monster.
