Is the telnet port open in the firewall?

Are you running SELinux? Have you checked its settings? Does telnet work if you disable SELinux?

I assume you attmepted to telnet from the RHEL system itself and that worked.

Can you ping the RHEL system from the XP system?

Either your firewall is not open, or SE Linux is preventing the connection from being made.

What happens if you run telnet from the RedHat machine? Can you connect from there?

Peter your guess was right, firewall was not open. So I started it.

About SE Linux, it was showing settings as Enforcing, I changes it to Permissible.

Now my problem is solved. Its working fine.

Thanks for help Peter
