Hi friends, this is also a interesting one. I think meaningless drivel is a kind of some relaxation to java programmers. Today, we will list three names of the serials we like to watch...

I'm guessing 'serial' means soap opera or something in the east. It's not a very common term for television programming in North America. Thus the smart-alec replies.

Yeah, 'cause otherwise, that would never happen.
But seriously, maybe you can help me here.
I think of "serials" as "chapter plays" -- those segments they used to show in theaters before the feature, like the 12-part "Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe" from 1940, or the 15-part "Batman and Robin" from 1949.
No, I wasn't around then, but I do remember seeing one replayed on late-night television in the '70s. It was something of a whodunnit, in which the villain turned out to be a character we were led to believe was an innocuous, somewhat dim-witted man who liked to play with those twisted nail puzzles (where you try to separate the nails). But in the final chapter, we found those puzzles were actually remote control devices operating some sort of doohickey by radio, so he was never at the scene of the crime. Does anyone have an idea what this serial was?

"Damini" is overrated. Too much Kama-Sutra, and not enough love making. "Shaktimaan" is OK, although I think that Nicolas Cage would be better than Morgan Freeman in the main character role. "Pari hu main" is my favorite. There is definitive chemistry between Hugh Laurie and Sarah Jessica Parker, and the hospital administrator Dr. Lisa Cuddy knows how to turn me on.

I assume this is House MD? Sarah Jessica Parker gets no credits in IMDB. You sure she is in it?
Prime time soap opera is as good a genre as "serial"

If you want to avoid misunderstanding, it might help to actually explain what you mean by "serial". Notice that no one without an Indian name seems to have any idea what you mean here. Or well, some of us may have have a very vague idea, but I think you're using many unstated assumptions. Do the written works of Charles Dickens count? The TV show Dallas? The ongoing comic book The Amazing Spider-Man? Maybe Grand Theft Auto IV? (Hint: if the only examples you can name have titles only in Hindi, then this might not be a very good question for an international English-language site.) I suggest that some clarification might be in order. [ June 10, 2008: Message edited by: Jim Yingst ]

Really? If someone likes Weekly World News, is that really a serial? Personally I would never use the word this way. But I don't know what "serial" is taken to mean in India. [ June 10, 2008: Message edited by: Jim Yingst ]

"D'y'all feel a draft up near the ceiling?" is the name of the American TV soap opera (a TV series, that is) back in the 1960s. It was about two Indians coming to a small rural American town as missionaries. Because their names were difficult to pronounce, the locals called them "Moose and "Squirrel" and perceived them as Stasi agents. The show was all about the play of the words and the clash of cultures. It was quite progressive for its time, considering that women didn't have the right to vote in the US until the late 1980s.
