I've narrowed it down to the following 2 1.Iomega Desktop Hard Drive 500 GB or 2.Seagate FreeAgent Desktop 500 The IOMega has a 1 yr warranty and the Seagate a 5 yr warranty. I'm leaning more towards the IOMega because it has an a considerably better sales rank at amazon than Seagate. The price difference is negligible. What do you think? Which one do you recommend? I've found a seller willing to sell the IOMega for Rs. 4950. Is this a good price? Thanks. [ July 02, 2008: Message edited by: Arvind Birla ]

I don't have personal experience with either of these two. However, I would take the Iomega one, because I'm using Ubuntu Linux and I've seen a lot of people complain in the Ubuntu forums that Seagate external harddrives don't work well with Linux, and Seagate refuses to support Linux.

Thanks for the info I think I won't buy Seagate HDD unless they support Linux.

I'm now leaning towards a Lacie 500 gb 'porshe'. Why ? It has 2 yr warranty, has a seagate HD inside the shell and is pretty cheap. Wish me luck!
