Are you asking what kind of applications OSGi is typically used for? I'm not sure a "typical" application exists, since the range of tasks it can be applied to is very broad (limited only by your imagination, really). Eclipse and GlassFish are examples of large apps that are based on OSGi.

I think OSGi is more like a general concept to help you achieve a better, more modular architecture, manage dependencies etc. In my opinion the basic ideas can be applied to almost any application to some degree.

Agreed. Asking what type of app OSGi is suitable for is like asking what kind of app that Spring or even object-oriented programming is suitable for. Most apps could benefit from the modularity offered in OSGi.
